| 1 And it came , according to pass that the days of Ether were in the days of Coriantumr; and Coriantumr was king over all the land. | 1 AND now I, Moroni, have written the words which were commanded came, according to my memory; and I have told you the things which I have sealed up; therefore touch them not in order that ye may translate; for that thing is forbidden you, except by and by it shall be wisdom in God. |
| 2 And Ether was a prophet of the Lord; wherefore Ether came forth in the days of Coriantumr, and began to prophesy unto the people, for he could not be restrained because of the Spirit of the Lord which was in him; | 2 And behold, ye may be privileged that ye may show the plates unto those who shall assist to bring forth this work; |
| 3 For he did cry from the morning, even until the going down of the sun, exhorting the people to believe in God unto repentance, lest they should be destroyed, saying unto them, that by faith all things are fulfilled; | 3 And unto three shall they be shown by the power of God; wherefore they shall know of a surety that these things are true. |
| 4 Wherefore, whoso believeth in God, might with surety hope for a better world, yea, even a place at the right hand of God, which hope cometh of faith, maketh an anchor to the souls of men, which would make them sure and steadfast, always abounding in good works, being led to glorify God. | 4 And in the mouth of three witnesses shall these things be established; and the testimony of three, and this works, in the which shall being shown forth the power of God and also his word, of which the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost bear record--and all this shall stand as a testimony against the world at the last day. |
| 5 And if it came to pass that Ether did prophesy great and marvelous things unto the people, which they did not believe, because they saw them not. | 5 And if it so be that they repent and come unto the Father in the name of Jesus, they shall be received into the kingdom of God. |
| 6 And now , if I, Moroni, would speak somewhat concerning these things; I would shew unto the world that faith is things which are hoped for and not seen; | 6 And now, if I have no authority for these things, judge ye; for ye shall know that I have authority when ye shall seen me, and we shall stand before God at the last day. Amen. |
